The team faced a tough challenge as they went up against St. Augustine High School. The Islanders had a rough day on the greens and ended up losing the match with a score of 189-213. Struggling with bad shots and penalties, the boys had some lessons learned the hard way. Yet, there were bright spots amidst the darker moments. Diego Vargas led the charge, scoring the lowest individual round at two over par, followed by Connor Wray and Ben Merrill with scores of 41 and 43 respectively. In their matchup against Scripps Ranch, senior Ellearie Lyons emerged as the standout player, leading the team with a score of 37. Dhara Jost supported the effort with a score of 47, while Cristina Orvananos had a round of 72. Fellow teammates, Eliza Taylor and Viviana Esponda, both carded 77, and Victoria Manzano put forth a score of 78. Despite facing some challenges, progress has been evident, especially in the girls’ putting skills, which Coach Gordon noted have improved significantly. Earlier this season, the Islanders had a notable win against Steele Canyon, defeating them 203-235, marking their fifth consecutive win. Freshman Ty Smock made waves with an even-par round of 35, securing his position as third in individual rankings, while senior Liam Weaver also performed exceptionally with another even-par 35, placing him 13th overall in the county. Connor Wray shot a round of 37, and Aiden Trieschman recorded a 41. Griffin Wong and Garrett Hatcher completed the rounds with scores of 55 and 57, respectively.
