Get ready, Coronado! This Saturday, May 17, something special is happening right here in our beautiful city. The City of Coronado, in collaboration with the Avenue of Heroes Committee, will be hosting a heartwarming ceremony to celebrate a fantastic milestone—the 10th anniversary of the Avenue of Heroes Military Recognition Program. It’s a big deal, and you’re invited to be part of it!
Mark your calendars for 10:30 a.m. at the Coronado High School Performing Arts Center. Located at 650 D Avenue, this is the place to be for a morning filled with gratitude and pride. To make things even more enjoyable, light refreshments will be served. So, you can enjoy a snack while honoring those who’ve bravely served our country!
Worried about getting there? Don’t be! Complimentary golf cart shuttles will be available to assist participants, ensuring everyone gets there comfortably. It’s just one more way to make this event welcoming and accessible for all!
Can you believe it’s been ten years since the Avenue of Heroes program started? Since its inception in 2014, nearly 300 veterans and active-duty service members have been recognized for their incredible service. That’s a staggering number, showcasing the dedication and spirit of our local community!
This milestone ceremony will introduce 16 new honorees, all of whom are past or present residents of Coronado. Each one of these stellar individuals has honorably served our nation, and they will be the highlight of this special event. As their contributions are recognized, the community will unite in gratitude and respect.
Of course, we all love a good display, don’t we? Banners will be proudly displayed along Coronado’s Avenue of Heroes from May through November. This stretch runs along Third and Fourth streets, starting from Orange Avenue all the way to the Naval Air Station North Island. Each banner will serve as a visual reminder of the sacrifices made by these remarkable individuals and will keep the spirit of honor alive throughout the community.
This initiative didn’t just pop up overnight; it is the fruit of a strong partnership that includes the City of Coronado, the VFW Post 2422, the Third and Fourth Streets Neighborhood Association, and the Coronado Historical Association. This collaboration has helped to bring to life a program that not only honors our heroes but also strengthens the bond within our city.
Coronado, this is your chance to come together as a community and honor the brave individuals who serve or have served our nation. Bring your family, your friends, and your gratitude to the Avenue of Heroes Military Recognition Program anniversary ceremony. Let’s show our support and appreciation in style! See you there!
