Coronado Resident Golsa Brydges Spreads Joy Through Year-Round Holiday Decor

The charming city of Coronado has a delightful resident who brings magic and cheer to the neighborhood all year round. Golsa Brydges, a welcoming face at 1119 Third Street, has gained quite a reputation for her beautifully decorated home. The sight of her vibrant displays instantly puts a smile on the faces of passersby. It becomes evident that Golsa is not just a regular decorator; she is a keeper of traditions and a lover of all things festive.

A Journey from Persia to Coronado

Golsa’s journey began far from the sunny shores of Coronado, as she originally hails from Persia. She made her way to the United States through Switzerland when she was just 9 years old. Growing up in La Jolla, she was inspired by a passionate Girl Scout mom who filled the holidays with joy and celebration. This experience ignited her love for holiday decorating, and she knew one day she would share this same passion with her children.

Marrying her husband Brooks, a Coronado native and graduate of Coronado High School in 1987, the couple fulfilled their long-held dream and settled down in Coronado six years ago. Their wedding took place at The Del on the Windsor Lawn, a moment that solidified their love for the community. Golsa appreciates the care and support shown by the residents, and being able to let her children ride their bikes to school in a safe neighborhood brings her such joy.

Holiday Magic in Every Season

Golsa’s home is breathtaking, decorated not only on the outside but also filled to the brim with holiday cheer inside. While she takes on most of the outdoor decorating solo, her children pitch in with the interior adornments. Golsa’s decorations change with the seasons and each holiday, from Valentine’s Day and Easter to Halloween and Christmas, leaving no occasion uncelebrated. Last Halloween, she embraced a Wizard of Oz theme to coincide with the release of the Wicked movie, and she has promised that this year’s Halloween decor will outshine the previous one in terms of elaborate creativity!

The setup process typically lasts two days, but some tasks require more attention. For example, the previous Halloween display took up to two weeks to complete because of intricate design choices. Golsa even went the extra mile for her flower-themed Easter set-up and had to order an additional 100 eggs to make the display even more impressive. In her quest for holiday perfection, she once created an outdoor Christmas tree adorned with real, edible candy canes that needed a restock every three days due to the sugary treats’ popularity!

A Pillar of Community and Tradition

Along with the vibrant displays, Golsa hosts wonderful holiday parties for Easter, Christmas, and Halloween to bring family and friends together and create lasting memories. The Brydges family is known around town for their festive golf cart, adorned with decorations as they journey through the community. Despite being a busy mom and wife—juggling work at the Coronado Tennis Center and helping out at her family’s Bandar Restaurant in the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter—she makes sure to carve out time for traditions. Each year, they pick ornaments, capture memories in pumpkin patches, and cut down their Christmas tree together.

Gratefully, most of her decorations have remained safe from theft, with the only incident being a stolen ceramic Santa. Despite this minor hiccup, community members often express their gratitude through heartfelt notes left outside her home, appreciating the joy her décor brings to all.

Looking Ahead

As the Brydges family looks for a new home, Golsa insists it must be in a highly visible location so she can continue her beloved decoration tradition. What started as a way to create a magical holiday experience for her children has blossomed into a captivating year-round hobby that spreads joy throughout the Coronado community. With her passion for decorations, it’s clear that Golsa Brydges is truly a blessing to her neighborhood!
