San Diego is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming USA Track and Field (USATF) San Diego-Imperial Association Summer Nights Track and Field All-Comers and Red-Black Intrasquad Meet, set to take place on December 7, 2024. The vibrant atmosphere! The cheers from the crowd! This is sure to be an exciting day for both athletes and spectators alike at San Diego State University (SDSU).
The event will kick off bright and early at 10 a.m. at the Choc Sportsman Oval on the SDSU’s Aztrack Sports Deck. For those looking to stretch or give their muscles a warm-up before showtime, the track will open at 9 a.m. What a perfect way to start the Saturday morning!
Are you ready for some serious action? The day will be packed with various field events starting at 10 a.m., including pole vault, discus throw, shot put, triple jump, and high jump. The excitement doesn’t stop there! The running events will commence at 10:30 a.m. with thrilling relays featuring both men’s and women’s teams in the exciting 4×200 meters. Things will unfold according to a rolling schedule, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats!
Excitement is also palpable among the SDSU women’s track and field program, which is aiming to build upon a stellar season where they finished second at both the Mountain West Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships. With a strong incoming class, the team is geared up and aims to snatch both titles in 2024!
Part of the fun is the Red-Black Intrasquad competition, where participants will compete as unattached athletes. Expect some friendly rivalry with teams captained by Hannah Waller for the red team and Shaquena Foote leading the black team. It’s bound to be exciting, especially with such dynamic leaders steering each side!
This event is not just for the athletes; it’s a community event designed for everyone, ranging from age 2 to 92! The Summer Nights meets, which include this one, have gained immense popularity by encouraging local residents to participate in track and field events. Last year, a record-breaking near-700 athletes joined the All-Comers Meet, making this a true community celebration.
For all you stats enthusiasts out there, the competition will feature Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. And let’s not forget about our throw athletes – those participating in toss events, especially masters, must remember to bring their own implements!
Proceeds from this fantastic event will go directly to supporting the SDSU Track and Field/Cross Country programs, ensuring that future athletes continue to thrive. And for family and friends ready to cheer on their favorite athletes, admission for spectators is absolutely free!
For those needing a place to park, you’re in luck! Parking is available at Parking Structure (PS) 7, which is conveniently located directly beneath the track. Just keep in mind that permits are required at $7/day, or you have the option to pay hourly!
Lastly, it’s worth mentioning this marks the 13th consecutive year the meet will be nationally sanctioned, solidifying its reputation as a premier event in the local track and field scene.
